SAF New Media Day 1 (22 Nov 10) Reflections

What "New Media" Means To Me?
  1. Appeals to the present generation because its INTERACTIVE
  2. Learners take OWNERSHIP of their learning and has CONTROL over the pace at which they want to learn
  3. "New Media Learning" is LEARNER-CENTRIC
  4. Using "New Media", learning can take place "ANYWHERE" & "ANYTIME"
  5. Promotes COLLABORATIVE LEARNING, hence drives the exploration of new knowledge 'frontiers'
  6. DIFFICULT TO REGULATE because of the lack of structure
  7. More suited for "EDUCATION" than for "TRAINING"
  8. NEED to draw learners' attention to the content and SPEND EFFORT in designing the media for instruction
Is "New Media" Applicable to Me Professionally?
  1. Workplace is LIMITED BY COMPUTING INFRASTRUCTURE
  2. Contents to deliver are SENSITIVE
  3. Needs more PRACTICAL than THOUGHTS

  2. To me, these are nice rise above points about what new media can do as well as thoughtful reflection on the realities in which they operate. When you say "needs more practical than thoughts", does that mean it must be more concrete than abstract?

  3. Hi Steve, maybe I wasn't too clear. What I mean what that in my line of work/training, practical sessions are much more useful. Although I do see opportunities where "new media" could be injected to "drum up" student interest.
